Steve Padgham
Director
Steve’s career in financial services began in 1990, joining The Financial Planning Group in 1995. He is a qualified independent mortgage broker.
As head of our mortgage department, Steve’s aim is to source and arrange mortgages for our private and business clients from first time buyers through to equity releasers.
He is able to place residential, buy-to-let, business and commercial mortgages, whilst his extensive contacts in both commercial and private banks enable him to place more complex mortgages
He has a wide knowledge and understanding of lenders and the mortgage market as a whole, with an expertise in equity release.
Outside of work Steve is a keen golfer, enjoys paddleboarding and working out at the gym. A family man with two children, he is never short of a diy project or being Dad’s taxi. Steve also raises funds for the Dylan Strong Foundation a local children cancer charity and can be seen at Christmas at Teddington light up selling his log slice chainsaw reindeers for this worthy cause.

John Sykes
Mortgage Manager
John joined The Financial Planning Group in 2002 having previously worked for a leading lender for over 4 years. His depth of knowledge of mortgages and lenders’ systems allows him to ably assist Steve in the mortgage team.
As the main point of contact for clients once their mortgage deal has been decided on, his attention to detail ensures the smooth processing of clients’ mortgages from application to offer.
When not at work, John enjoys long walks with his two Yorkshire Terriers, in between offering a taxi service for his children.
His great passion is for Leeds United and he has followed them through highs and lows for more years than he care’s to remember.

Tom Hearne
Mortgage Broker
Tom started out as a mortgage broker working within an estate agency in South-West London, where he spent over two years helping clients get the financing they needed. This gave him a great understanding of the whole homebuying process and the complications and pressures that buyers face.
Now working independently and across the whole market, Tom isn’t tied to a panel of lenders, so he can offer unbiased advice and more options. Being independent also means he can spend more time focusing on each client to deliver a personal, attentive service. Besides mortgages, Tom also works closely with clients to tailor protection plans – like life insurance and income protection that fit’s their unique needs and circumstances, helping to keep their finances and homes safe in the long run. He’s especially interested in how technology can support, not replace, real conversations and trust.
Outside of work, Tom is a language enthusiast currently preparing for his Spanish C1 exam. He also studies Portuguese and dabbles in Italian whenever he can. When he’s not juggling verb conjugations, he’s supporting Fulham FC, in the gym keeping active or out walking his Boxer dog, Molly.

Debbie Timlaline
Operations Manager
Debbie brings over 20 years of experience in Financial Services, with a strong focus on Operations and Practice Management. Throughout her career, she has been instrumental in driving process improvements, enhancing operational efficiency, and implementing strategic change.
In May, she joined The Financial Planning Group as Operations Manager, where she is leading the transformation of the firm’s operations strategy, streamlining back-office functions, and supporting succession planning initiatives. Debbie is very people-focused and values strong relationships, whether she’s working with clients or collaborating with colleagues. She believes that communication, mutual trust, and a bit of humour go a long way in building a positive and productive environment.
Outside of work, Debbie is a passionate traveller who prefers sunny destinations over colder climates, often exploring the world with her husband and children. She also enjoys spending time at her allotment, where she grows an eclectic mix of produce and is always in a friendly battle with the local wildlife. A keen home cook, Debbie loves recreating dishes inspired by her travels and balancing it all out with regular sessions at the gym.

Director
Alan, a founding Partner of The Financial Planning Group, has a wealth of knowledge working as a financial planner since 1988.
He is a Chartered Financial Planner and a member of the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), the premier professional body for the financial services profession.
Alan has experience of a wide range of personal and corporate financial planning solutions with a particular expertise in wealth management, pension transfers and long term care planning for the elderly.
